Joseph Addison (1672-1719)Addison was an author, politician and co-publisher of "The Spectator" (1711-1712) which consisted of a series of essays whose subject matter dealt with manners, science and literature. The mission of the publication was to represent the ideals of the middle class and it was quite popular with its readers. Addison's co-publisher was Sir Richard Steele who shared the task of writing for the publication. Addison also wrote for "The Tatler" another Steel periodical. He served in Parliament for 12 years from 1708. He was born in Milston in Wiltshire and educated at Oxford University.
